Why Modern Man is such a Hopeless Fucking Dope.

I'm probably not alone in observing that modern man doesn't really hold up much of a candle when compared to the likes of the old heroes - Beowulf strips down to his tattoos and single handedly boots Grendel's arse back into his mother's crevice, Achilles hacks off arms without breaking a sweat; hell, even James Bond still manages to kick some butt despite having being made to put a lid on the sexist remarks and grow a fledgling social conscience.

I thoroughly agree with your observations that man and woman have increasingly become 'juvenile'. Back in the 18th century children used to emulate adults i.e. wear clothes like adults, wear monocle, smoke, and generally try to 'be older'. Nowadays, in crude generalisation, the adult world, especially the young adult world, is being encouraged to 'remain young' to emulate youthfulness, chilidishness. I see these trends across the board in modern mediated culture, from Glasgow to Japan.

It will be interesting to see the outcome. Children that are 'more adult' i.e. that can deal at a much younger age with the complexity of experience and morality. Or whether or not adults will be, cultural speaking, obsolete.

Do you still loath homosexuals? As one myself, I loath and love my homosexuality, but as you know, I try to look 'outside' of my own bias.

I'll be reading this again.

No I don't hate homosexuals and have the nowadays obligatory token gay friend. :)

Went to a gay bar down by the harbour a year or so a go with my mate - the barman put a white hanky around our beers to put our butts off limits apparently - but we got bored pretty quickly - we'd been primed by bad American films to expect a bunch of leather queens hamming it up to YMCA but no, just a lot of severely preening twenty-somethings hanging around the near-empty dancefloor. After a couple of beers I went to the bogs - again expecting to be tripping over wannabe cottagers on the way to the urinal but was instead greeted by a very old lady who charged me about 30p for a paper towel.

Hope the gay scene in your area is better.

On second thoughts I think you were confusing me with Satyr - he was the gay hater I remember.

I know your not a hater (as they are called) but there you have a 'healthy distrust in general' and so do I, not least of my own sexuality (do you remember my poem 'it's so gay' were i insult and berate homosexuals, as though i am outside it all).

Reading more of your posts, I really do love how your mind processes, it's heady stuff too. I need to grab my dictionary now and then and digest your thoughts over time, something I do not fear.

think on. tab.

Excellent news. When you do go, pick somewhere warm, that's the best advice I can give.
